Chanting mantra is an important part of a complete yoga practice. In most of our classes, we generally chant at least one of the following mantras:

Asatoma Mantra:

Asatoma Sad Gamaya

Tamasoma Jyotir Gamaya

Mrityorma Amritam Gamaya

Meaning:

Lead me from the unreal to the real

Lead me from darkness to light

Lead me from time-bound consciousness;

to a timeless state of Being.

Guru Mantra:

Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu

Guru Devo Maheswara

Guru Saaksaat Param Brahma

Tasmai Shri Guruve Namaha

Meaning:

Guru (teacher) is Brahma (who plants the qualities of goodness)

Guru is Vishnu (Who nurtures and fosters the qualities of goodness)

Guru is Maheswara - Shiva (Who weeds out the bad quality)

Guru is Supreme Brahman itself

I bow unto that Guru
