Massage

Frequently Asked Questions:

What do I wear?

It is entirely up to you and your comfort level.  I can say that for myself, as the therapist, I prefer my clients to not wear anything mainly because it enables me to access areas that very often need the most attention, such as the hips and low back.  I always drape (cover) my clients, and move the drape strategically as to keep the session modest and professional.  Many of my clients wear underwear, which is not a problem.  As I said, it is up to you.

What type of massage to you do?

I have a very eclectic training.  I incorporate many modalities, and generally work where your body is needing healing.

What is Reiki?

The short answer is energy healing.  It uses the Universal energy known as Chi to aid the body, mind, and spirit in healing by releasing blockages in the energy pathways (known as Meridians).  It is believed that many ailments stem from restrictions and blocks on our vital Life Force due to diminished flow of energy through the body.  As a Reiki practitioner, my body’s energy acts as a conduit for this Life Force, creating the stimulation of healing for the receiver.  The session is done clothed in a very quiet room.  There is usually no actual massage-type treatment during a Reiki session.  I use a meditative state to allow me to sense the body’s needs, and to be guided to areas that need attention.  You will leave the session feeling relaxed and at peace.

I’m ticklish, how can I let you touch me?

Every person that has come to me, even those who say they are ticklish, do not experience any discomfort due to being ticklish.  In fact, I have worked with some people who swore that I could not even touch their feet because they were so ticklish and after we got started they were able to let me work on their feet with no problem.

Will it hurt during the massage?

Not necessarily.  Sometimes there are very restricted areas of the body that require a little more effort to get loose, but I always work with my clients to their comfort level.  Communication is key in this situation.  If you are holding your breath in pain and fighting against the pressure of the massage, most likely the work is too deep and you need to let me know.  I always check in with my clients to see if they are okay, but don’t be afraid to speak up, either.

Is there talking during the session?

Again, that is up to you.  I take my cues from you.  If you talk to me, I will respond.  In those cases, I try to minimize the conversation by keeping my responses brief.  It is not rude if you want to be completely quiet.  And, anytime you want to ask a question or just share something, you can feel free to do that as well.

Why am I sore after a massage?

It is normal for the body to experience some soreness from massage for one to two days afterward.  This can be minimized by remaining well hydrated both before and after your treatment.  The reason for this is that massage releases toxins from the muscles and surrounding tissues and moves them into your blood and lymph fluids to be flushed from the body.  These toxins act as a sticky substance in the tissue, restricting it’s natural movement, and when they are released, the tissue has to heal.  Drinking plenty of water assists the body in this process.
