Finding Your Center Through Your Practice

Santosha Yoga | NOV 8, 2022

With the weather getting colder and the nights getting longer NOW is the perfect time to embrace your practice and go within, a little self-study if you will. Holidays are fast approaching and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and off balance.

Find Your Center at Santosha

How can you find your center? What are some ways to get grounded as the busy-ness of life swirls around you? Our recommendations for a weekly practice:

  • 1 class to clear your mind using guided meditation
  • 1 class to gently challenge your body with stretching & energetic poses
  • If you can, add in 1 more class that combines relaxation and movement.

Top 5 Ways to Make it onto your Mat

  1. Pre-register for classes! Lovingly hold yourself accountable. By pre-registering you have told the universe this is your time. It also gives you a special little gift to yourself to look forward to.
  2. Block the time out in your schedule - with about 10 minutes before, if you can. Giving yourself the extra 10 minutes gives you a moment to come into your space with your props and your bearings. You can sit and begin to focus on your breath and begin feeling into your body.
  3. Set up your space in advance. Maybe first thing in the morning roll out your mat, just that gentle moment can set the tone for the day. Something about the physical act of rolling out my mat gives a sense of peace immediately both physically and mentally. Maybe the knowing of what happens on this mat instantly washes over me as I unroll it like the waves on the shore gently soothe my mind.
  4. Bring a friend – awesome way to stay connected to folks who are farther away! Also a great way to lovingly hold each other accountable. Company is stronger than will. We find even on Zoom practicing in a group feels so supportive.
  5. Tell someone you’re going to class – so they can gently & lovingly hold you accountable.

After class tips to continue taking care of yourself

  1. Journaling is a lovely way to further explore what you did on your mat as well as clear your mind. Sometimes just getting your thoughts out on paper can help you work through ideas or situations and ease any worries.
  2. Have a hot cup of tea - take a moment and feel the warmth of the mug in your hands, take in the aroma as you raise the mug up to your mouth and really take the time to savor those sips.
  3. Take a walk in the brisk air. Keeping with that relaxed mind, take in the sights, scents and sounds all around you. Take the time to connect with nature, noticing the colors of the leaves, maybe the smell of a wood stove and feel the crispness of the air on your skin.

See you in class soon. We would love to hear some of your tips!!!
